First time at BOYL

Hi, just wanted to post here and ask a few questions about the event.

This’ll be my first time coming to BOYL and I’m a bit unsure on how everything goes. I had a look at the schedule and I’m hoping to come Saturday. From what I can tell the Mordheim event is one that I can drop in on? I have a 500 crown warband ready and painted and I’ve read through the homebrew rules that were posted here.

I was also planning to bring a small marine force I put together to hopefully join in on a game, probably that rogue trader throw-down I saw on the schedule but I’m not sure how that one would work as I haven’t seen anyone post about it.

Was also wondering if the war games foundry shop will also be open during the event? I saw online that it usually isn’t open during the weekend so I’m not sure. Lastly, when should I try and arrive for? I assume things start at 10 because that’s when the first game of Mordheim starts but I couldn’t really find anything on the website or here about when the morning, afternoon, and evening segments of the timetable actually were?

It’s my first time really interacting with this community outside of following a few of the more popular blogs (leadplague, magpie and old lead, etc) so I’m honestly a little nervous as well.

Welcome to the forum, good to have you on board!

The BOYL-heim game is being organised via a FB group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1068676831796228/), but there are spaces on each slot, so should be good to rock up on the day. What is your warband?

The shop is definitely open so you can browse the racks and drool over the vintage painted minis in the display case! Morning game slots start at 10:00 and they chuck us out in the evening (we just left at 20:30 after nattering for ages).

Not sure about the RT game, with the abundance of platforms people use to organise their games makes it a little hard to tell. Can only advise chatting to folks and getting an idea. The chap who helps organise the event is looking at developing a better booking system so things will be easier to tell. Fingers crossed for next year!

I will be mooching around the Mordheim and Maisontaal board tomorrow in a WD#121 T-shirt, so hope to say “hello” IRL!

BTW Keep an eye on the traffic if coming by car as it really snarls up around Newark from most directions…

Hi!
Sounds good, thanks for the info! I’ve got a cult of the possessed band (magister, mutant, possessed, and 2 beastmen). I’ll probably rock up around half 9 to the quarter to, i’ll make sure to find you and say hi

This is only the second time I've made it to BOYL. Everyone is super friendly, I've not met anyone who has not been happy to say hi, show off their models or natter for a few minutes about whatever random bit of nostalgic gaming trivia happens to have sprung into existence.

Will be lovely to say hello. I suspect tomorrow shall be navy blue "Hex Base" t-shirt, baseball cap and old army combats, so by all means come and say hi if you spot me in the crowd! Should be around until about 1600/1700 on Saturday I think.

Really appreciate the replies. I’m on my way now, I’ll be wearing a “crusade” shirt if you happen to spot me.

Fimm's board looked amazing all the more so when covered in minis today. Stunning game.

Lovely to meet you in person @Akalabeth seemed like you had a good time and thanks for showing me your beakie marines.

The board was a thing of majesty - got back to sunny York (had a couple of refreshments), and then cracked out my WFB3 to compare to the pics I took - absolutely awesome. So much other excellent stuff there too - I am feeling the creative mojo. Have another awesome day tomorrow everyone still there.

Oh I forgot to ask, what's the food like there? I guess it's not a rip off like bugmans?
Hearty food at a decent price!

Bacon babs in the morning. There is selection of salad bowls, sandwiches and cakes in the fridge unit, or sausage rolls midday. Various stews, curry (inc chicken or veg) & rice, chilli and baked potatoes followed by steamed pudding or cheesecake. Fresh coffee, cans of pop and bottle of beers at the bar with free chilled water.
