erm.. Heroquest baseline price?

yeah.. i'm.. kinda a bit in shock cause.. I really didn't expect to win this but.. What is the baseline price you would think is 'reasonable' for a complete Original Hero quest (well, say Original.. hard to tell if the rules are the original or revision) unpainted...

"Reasonable" or what it tends to go for on eBay? Reasonable given it's still popular maybe £50, but I think when I was last looking complete decent sets tend to sell in auction for more like £80-100. Did you manage to get a good deal on a set?

with p&p £100 for two sets. by the looks of it, while they say only one complete set, one is complete with no painted figures, the other has a couple of figures which will need stripping, but it's not missing any figures. Maybe some doors or tiles but that's it.

not counting my custom board i'm doing (i'll have to share some pictures some time), that'll mean i have 4 boards.. and that dark company quest.. mm.. not gonna happen but.. ohh..

not 100% sure what i'm going to do with it all right now.. but.. more figures always good ^_^ It was just going stupidly cheap so i put in a bid that came to mind, not really expecting to win or anything..

That does sound like a decent deal, well done. You can probably sell any un-needed duplicate bits back on eBay for decent profit! Building a nice 3D HQ board bas always been on my wishlist of projects!

My best accidental eBay deal was a Forge World Fire Dragon that I really didn't expect to win, but somehow managed to get for a very decent price. It's still on my todo list (been there for some years) and I've got to sculpt some horns and spikes for it (was missing those) so it'll be a decent size project.

Hasbro’s recent release of a new edition of HeroQuest really seems to have reduced the value of original sets. Plenty of reasonable condition complete original sets selling on eBay around the £50 mark, others in better condition for significantly more admittedly. Not sure your score represents such great value currently. I’m amazed people see any value in the new releases. The miniatures, artwork and design are a pale imitation of the original. Good time to pick up an original copy for a more realistic price though.

I'd totally agree about the new HQ. Board is nice, 3D terrain pieces are nice, but the miniatures are well "just miniatures". There isn't anything wrong with them, but they don't have anything to make them stand out, just okay miniatures. They are not classics like the originals, or outstanding sculpts that just scream "I need that". The new game doesn't do much for me alas.

^^Did not know that. Might have to look into the expansions and see if the prices have come down any. Or replacing the few missing and damaged figures out of my own. (Nothing serious. Just a skeleton or two. Maybe an orc.)

Only reduced to what they were back in 2015 though. They peaked around £110 for a complete, unpainted set in 2020-21. I imagine Wizards and Ogre Horde will hold their value for a good while yet as Hasbro hasn't indicated these are on their re-release schedule. And in any case the Hasbro miniatures are awful!

Very much agree Fimm, but the fact that original HeroQuest prices are declining at all makes it a bit of an anomaly amongst GW products of a similar vintage. Certainly not an unwelcome development.

Yeah most OOP GW products are mad expensive these days! I'm certain that they're actually casting up old minis to feed to eBay and making more of a profit than they would if they brought back into production!

I've said before but will always say, why don't Citedel (like some other companies) do a 'classics' range.. IF they got old moulds still good and they got the rights, cast some for a decent price, it isn't hard. I know some ex-citedel stuff are with ones like Foundary, but.. mm.. Can i get away with saying they aren't really from 'main' ranges? Don't see many reconiseable stuff still being made (though there are probebly some I don't know about). closest i find are a few unproduced models..

the 'new' heroquest is.. yeah.. pricey i think and not really up to much.. minatures look awful to me but that's probebly due to the 'current' style (hell, current Orks and Orcs from GW look crap.. humans with slightly pointy ears.. Sorry, When i think Orcs and Goblins, Mostly think of Jes Goodwin and Kev Adams works..

only plus i see in the new heroQuest is there is the fully moulded furniture, but that's nothing too fancy, and the fact there are a couple of interesting releases in that the USA add-ons are released (but i think all the new version use the USA rules) and they have done some 'add-on' characters.. but fans have been doing these for years.. so not really worth it..

No sure why the new miniatures don't even seam consitant style with themselves.. (that said, the USA sculpts didn't seam.. that great a style to me.. I mean, if they are still hand sculpted, it's skillful, I'm rubbish myself.. I've now sculpted two basic minis myself.. neither fantastic.. one i haven't decided if i'm gonna mould up and refine a copy or just paint the putty.. need to show a picture sometime)..

Keep trying to get a friend with kids into the fact that Miniature gaming is a great thing for the kids to learn, teaching various skills like painting, miniture building, tatics, fairplay etc.. okay, i think the oldest is about ... erm.. 6 or 8.. which is depressing cause I don't think of myself as old and I went to school with him ¬_¬;

still.. when they turn up (should be this week) I'll see just what is missing.. cause like i said (I think) checking the photos, all the miniatures are there and most are unpainted.

lets think.. the original Heroquest was about £32 I think.. (say in 1990) In line purely with inflation by the average which is always iffy but close enough, that would be about £70 now. so the new one isn't TOO badly off but.. no interest due to them figures.. also means me paying £50 a piece for almost complete, is fair enough.

The new release of HeroQuest has nothing to do with GW, it was entirely produced by Hasbro, hence the replacement of Chaos Warriors with Dread Warriors and Fimir with incongruous fishmen called Abominations. I’m not a fan of modern GW sculpts generally but the new Hasbro figures really are poor.

erm.. yes.. that's why we are calling it the Hasbro release.. (also, Chaos Warrior name isn't trademarked but the Fimir name kinda is, even is the design isn't really.)

I was just commented on modern figures and design in general with commenting on how bad the ones for the new Heroquest are, and that even games workshop ones are crap in my view.. Sorry if i mistyped and gave the impression i thought GW and Hasbro were the same.

forgot.. it's not hasbro.. Avalon Hill or something. but i think with license from Hasbro (who brought MB years ago).

Anyway, sets turned up today and i can report.. I don't have two complete sets.
* Both Altar tables are missing the cardboard.

that's it. well, techinally, I could say one orc is missing his weapon, a couple of rats don't have tails (i'm surprised most of the rats DO have there tails), One gargoyle has the spike on one wing missing, the tip of one candle stick but none of that is unexpected or a problem. I want to do up a set of furniture as fancy without card anyway.

so.. yeah.. OH and one set is missing one Red D6.. replaced with a plastic red D6.. like I don't have plenty of dice around the place.

The sorcerer's tables didn't come with card pieces in the UK/Europe editions. The ones supplied with the US versions I always thought looked weird.

...
point.. looked like it should have but.. yeah.. it didn't.. which is why I don't remember what it looked like.. and when I looked it up, I didn't recognise it.. damn memory... trust you to remember that.

So.. well.. that's even better.. two complete sets..
