Epic Blood Angels and Imperial Guard

Often on the way to BOYL its been mused with friends of this parish that one could paint an Epic Space Marine army pretty quickly with the aid of contrast paint, well in 2023 I’m giving it a go. My daughter bought me Blood Angels Red contrast paint which was the catalyst for this, the aim is to get a reasonable force painted to a table ready standard (nothing fancy, its just got to be presentable) as quickly as possible.

First things done a detachment of tactical marines (that will form a part of a tactical company) alone with some dreadnaughts. TBH the things that slows me down the most is waiting for things to dry…

Contrast for Epic is a damn fine idea. I came across a box of random Epic stuff the other day and was wondering what I might do with it, besides tuck it at the bottom of the lead pile. This gives me hope! I like the blood drop banner and the blue hatches on the rhinos - takes me back!

Re: Epic Blood Angels

Thanks

Am shocked how easy it is to paint epic minis to a reasonable standard, essentially its contrast for the red (and the blue rhino hatches) then a few base colours picking out some details. Even the banner was low effort but looks effective enough at that scale, the bases are what I’ve spent time on as there’s been dry brushing involved.

Have set myself the till the end of Feb to see what I can get painted...at this rate it could be a fair sized force

Completed the Tactical Company....speed painted but at epic scale these are certainly servicable for gaming purposes.

I really ought to paint up that epic eldar force I bought so many years ago. If I can still find it, anyway. Lovely stuff!

Thanks...really impressed on how quickly I've managed to get things painted, now just need to play the game again!

Well it was a two month project...which came to an end on Monday but am happy with the results and how much I managed to paint despite family and work commitments

Lovely work. Epic is still among my favourite games. I love the grand scale of it. Looking forward to seeing the Guard!

Well my local Warhammer Store said 'Bring in your 2023 painting project' so I did  It was all GW minis, painted with GW paints but for some reason probably wasn't exactly what they were expecting...still everyone was friendly and the army got much love. So did Cookie, my Daughters dinosaur that needed to join in the fun

Also managed to paint my first batch of guardsmen
