Dungeon Delving, Oldhammer Style

Hi!

The current How To Oldhammer project has given me the urge to get some motivation to paint up some 28mm scale figures. The problem is I haven't the space for even a skirmish game like Mordheim and I was wondering about going for a Dungeon Delve type of game ala Heroquest, Warhammer Quest and Advanced Heroquest. Its handy as it operates with floor tiles and a more eclectic mixture of figures which hopefully will engage my attention a bit more.

All of them are out of production but the rules themselves are freely available as PDFs and all seem to have a rather thriving community supporting them with all manner of supplements and extra gubbins.

Which would you folks suggest as a good one to get ones teeth into or should I try something different like Descent?

All the best!

I've started doing WHQ solo, as its random room and encounter system adds a little bit of unpredictability. I can paint small batches of minis that take my fancy and use them in the game easily. I don't have much in the way of oldhammer opponents where I am, and between work and fatherhood a night in a games club isn't really feasible.
I managed to get the warhammer quest game without minis on ebay for 30 quid, even though I already had HQ, I think it was a great purchase.
There are lots of websites with PDF's of the floor plans you could print out and use and the playing cards can be picked up on ebay if you spend the time looking for them for a fairly reasonable price.

edit:
I 'think' I have some extra encounter cards for the game you could have if you choose the WHQ route.

Aye, check out Cavern Crawl (or Tavern Trawl) - it's a sound recommendation and a fun rule system. Made by our own resident Gareth The Grot (I wouldn't call it fan generated, it's his product all together).

yes sorry...bad choice of words. He does mention is love for Heroquest a couple of times...but more as inspiration rather than spin off. Gareth is also very responsive to rules inquiry and suggestions...plus he is just a fine dude... 8-)

Cheers,

Blue
