Does the original packaging add value?

Hi, I've asked on a couple of other forums about the value of some RT Imperial Guard Command I've got that are still in their blister and was directed to you as the keepers of all Citadel Knowledge :)

Rather than rehashing the same thing I thought a more interesting question was does the original packaging add any value to minis?

Personally I couldn't care less, I want to get my hands on the shiny metal asap! But I would assume there are serious Citadel collectors who value the original packaging as part of the history.

Its an interesting question. Personally the end goal is to paint and use my models, so a mint in blister model has no more intrinsic value than a good condition loose model to me.

Boxes are slightly different - I can see the appeal of having original boxes where there is an interesting piece of box art...whether it warrants a premium price is questionable...

Sorry to any collectors out there, but the idea of people keeping these things in the blisters and not painting and gaming with them makes me weep for humanity.

Yes...Figures in their original blisters or boxes will sell for more than the same figures out of the box....which will sell for more than the same figures that are out of the box and painted poorly.

...at least thats the trend I have seen.

Personally I don't buy figures to look at them in the package and will not pay extra for the pleasure of opening them (sweet though it may be... ). I intend to paint all my figures...even if it takes 3 generations of my off spring to complete...so there is no point in keeping them cooped up in there... ;)

Cheers,

Blue

That's pretty much what I figured, I think most collectors are passionate about the models. I'm itching to open this blister  even though I don't have any real use for the models.

I think that for some it may add value, but not really substantial value.

Personally, I'll pay a bit more for something still in a blister even though I intend to rip it open. I like the assurance that all the bits are present, and that the minis are less likely to be battered, and that I don't have to spend time stripping paint. And I like knowing that it's not some silly recast. I think there's a value in that.

I don't think many people would believe it adds value in the "mint condition collector's item!" Sense.

EDIT: rip open that blister and get painting!

Haha don't encourage me :)

I should sell them and put the money towards some proper storage for my painted minis, that'd be the sensible thing to do. Yes, very sensible...
