Differences in miniatures over the editions of Warhammer

Hi,
Just wondering what the main differences the Citadel minatures when through when Games workshop changed the editions of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. I'm seeing loads of different types all over internet and not sure the best way to work out what miniatures can be used with mainly 3rd edition.

As 3rd edition was current from 1987 to 1992, I’d take a look at the catalogues from that era and back to 1985, if I were you. The Stuff of Legends website is a good place to start.

I'd also suggest looking at the bestiary from 3rd Edition, Warhammer Armies (1st Edition), Slaves to Darkness and any of the White Dwarfs from that period - some of the 2nd edition creatures didn't make it across (lesser goblins?).

Stylistically, I think you can generally tell the difference between the 4th Edition miniatures and 3rd because of size increases, the more limited number of poses available in a range, the increased size of weapons, hands, feet and faces, and the lack of scabbards, backpacks etc which were a legacy from RPG days.

4th Edition doesn't tend to have as many spikey bits, rotted skins and skulls as later versions.
