Dastardly Dark Elves

Too long have I loitered and not contributed! I spotted that someone recently asked; 'is Oldhammer dying!?' All I can say, at least 'round 'ere, is - "IT'S ALIVE!" - gonna prove it by sharing some stuff as I tackle some 80's Dark Elves. (Be gentle with me, I've not done this before!)

Good work. I particularly like your flesh tones.

I think that those old Naismith sculpts are some of the best Dark Elves that Citadel ever made. Do you have the command figures in your lead pile too?

Thanks - my free hand isn't great but I can manage simple runes and the like!

Totally agree, the Marauder DE's were nice too, but a little chunky for elves I always thought - I have a few so we'll see how they look side by side in a unit. First tried the flesh like this when I got into 8th edition and just stuck with it, glad you like it - it's nice and quick to do. And yep, got a few command group models lined up - photos coming soon!

Love them Zoatally Amazing, & although not Zoatally in any regard they are indeed Zoatally Amazing! Perfect colour choices for those perfect Dark Elves (I’m entirely enamoured by the female sculpts face).

I agree with Citizen, the skin tone is spot on, plus the colours you used for the boots, gloves & cloak are excellent, and really compliment their own hue of skin. Also as Loose Loser noted, shields are a lovely work & nice to see the original plastics used, the shapes chosen are a very good choice per figure.

What colour is that old gold brassiness you have used, is there a glaze or wash over the metallic?

Are they finished, they look finished, I reckon those worthy & evil foes deserve to be flaying some flesh from the other entries in the Golden Gobbo

Oooof sinister fleshtone! And the shields look the part too. I always think Dark Elves look at their best when you can really tell that they're debased High Elves, and these have that feel for me. Great work!

 "...Dark Elves look at their best when you can really tell that they're debased High Elves..."

Very true , & methodically unhinged  , in a Romulan-esque manner.

(mixed metaphor 'universes' there, sorry :? ).

Glad you like them! The gold is really simple - Army Painter Greedy Gold, washed Ogryn flesh, highlighted Greedy Gold and then AP Bright Gold.

I am pleased with the flesh tone, but I can never quite get it as good as on this old marauder vamp! More practice needed!

A few crossbow armed Dark Elves - although on these old sculpts everyone's packing! Keen to see how these BS 4 strength 4 shooters perform in a game of 3rd, I reckon they could be trouble! (Apologies for the poor lighting!)

Strayed a little from the Dark Elves to finish a unit of Troll Slayers for my Dwarf army. Can't decide whether to add a few tattoos or not.

They look fantastic! Love the banner especially

I could see how a little bit of tattooing might look cool, but I wouldn't go too far overboard with it beyond a couple of sailor tattoos as this is aleady fantastic work. I think massive wrap around tattoo designs might only disguise what you've already done so well!

That's a good call, I think it was the traditional 'heavy' blue tattooing that was making me unsure. I might try and mirror the axe rune from the banner on a few arms.
