Dark Elf War Altar

I was looking through Warhammer Armies yesterday when I noticed the entry for a dark elf war altar. Was this mini ever produced for 3rd edition? Has anyone seen a conversion anywhere online?

I agree with big as far as using the cauldron of blood, that's what I was planning to do. Just swap out the 4th ed witch elves for 3rd ed ones and you're golden!

Slann, Chaos, Empire, & Bretonnia had them as well IIRC, but no miniatures were produced.
Actually, if you can get your hands on the old Slann palanquin, that would be an easy base. I could see Dark Elfs having slaves, perhaps with a whipmaster at the rear to keep the altar moving.

Not that I've ever seen...the "alter" is an interesting relic of 3rd ed and earlier that pretty much disappeared in later versions...at least in the form depicted in the the Armies book.

Disappeared and reappeared for at least the chaos and the dark elves.

There was an Empire one produced ... before the griffon one that everyone knows.
Flippin rare. Only ever seen one.
Don't even have a picture of it to show you.

Well I say Empire ... but thinking about it when it was made there was no entry for a war alter in the Empire list BUT there is one in the Bretonnian list ... so maybe it was a Bretonnian War alter???

They basically ended up transformed for 4th as larger war machines like the Cauldron of Blood, Screaming Bell, & the Empire Altar with the Grand Theogonist. Pretty sure there was some dwarf equivalent in 4th too.

Throne of power or anvil of doom would be the only things even close for dwarfs in 4th.

The unreleased dark elf war hydra howdah intrigues me, maybe something like that would make a good war altar. Of course you'd probably want to build your own howdah, I shudder to think how much you'd pay for an actual one :(

Same here but be aware that the original Cauldron is covered in "laughing god" faces which makes it look very naff imo.

Just because I have a secret crush on Nico, lookee HERE .

What era was the unreleased, top-sekret, Dark Elf howdah from? :)

It was from 4th edition, but it's probably cheaper to track down than the pieces Nico used

To be honest, the sculpt isn't that impressive looking anyway, it's got some skulls, and a little lightning bolt, and... some giant trumpets? Or extra long exhaust pipes? I don't really know
