Custom 3D Printed Miniatures — My Oldhammer-Inspired Designs

Hey everyone,

I’ve been experimenting with 3D printing Oldhammer-style miniatures recently and thought I’d share a few pieces I’ve worked on.

I love the classic Warhammer aesthetic and wanted to recreate that old-school charm through modern 3D printing.

You can check out some of my work here: https://dressart3d.com

Would love to hear your thoughts or tips on improving detail and paintability for resin prints.

Cheers,

Hello, welcome to the forum.

You might have to point us more in the direction of your older miniatures, or post a few here. It wasn't that clear quite where to look on your site! Sorry if that's my old age and an inability to see the obvious! So are you sculpting in an older style or do you mean you've been painting older style (but 3D printed) models?

My understanding of improving details on resin printing really seems to come down to matching as close as possible the vertical and horizontal resolutions - so that your printing units are as close to cubes as possible and as small as possible, obviously primarily limited by the X-Y resolution - going higher on the Z axis isn't fundamentally bad, just slow! I get the impression when you're down to about 0.1mm you're starting to really loose the layers, but I've not looked recently to see if the current crop of printers are there yet. Then it's mostly down to orientation to minimise layers showing on large surfaces and to try to ensure supports are going to come off cleanly, there seems to be quite an art to getting that skill properly dialled in. Then finally speaking of dialing in getting the right cure times for the resin you're using. The fact that it all too quite so much experimentation is slightly the reason I don't actually do much printing myself. Whilst I could see it being an interesting hobby, hobby time is otherwise occupied!

No offense but ... that site just says you print bootlegs and paint them up for sale.. so.. yikes.. not just bootleg Citadel stuff but others too...

My person view with my stuff is Private use Bootlegs kinda fine, for sale BIG NO NO.. sculpting in the style and doing original sculpts to get the feel and look of older ones, that's the tight line, but some of the stuff you are selling.. that is kinda 3D scan so.. I'm not saying everything you are selling is or anything but.. Kinda nothing I'm interested in and a bit ... well.. Be clear and honest with what you do and you should be fine with people.

EDIT: Okay.. I might be cause the site is.. very confusingly laid out.. and .. yeah.. very confusing as to what is 'original' sculpts and what is just painting models.

Hey everyone, thanks a lot for the feedback; I truly appreciate it!

Just to clarify, all the miniatures on Dressart3D are original 3D sculpts inspired by the Oldhammer aesthetic, Grim dark universes’ lore, and my own original concepts, since I’ve always been a fan of the grim dark style. None are scans or recasts.

I do occasionally pro-paint official Warhammer models to resell, but only to help fund my own original sculpting projects — there’s no copying involved.

In the coming days, I’ll be sharing three fully painted examples of our new, totally original miniature range; with four more currently in the painting stage, around twenty in 3D design, and another twenty in concept stage.

Each miniature will be part of a new universe and lore I’m creating from scratch. To prove their originality, I’ll also post work-in-progress videos, 3D model images, and concept sketches.

If you’d like a sneak peek, you can watch the Ashen Whispers prologue videos on my website: https://dressart3d.com.
The next one, coming this Sunday, will reveal the first monster (the Land Shark) and the first character (Mariabdella Lacrimal Dolores).

Thanks again for the feedback and interest; it really motivates me to keep pushing the creative side of this hobby!

New sculpts inspired by the classic Citadel are absolutely welcome here. When you're ready to sell, that should probably be posted in the marketplace. WIP shots of your new sculpts could probably fit in the WIP area. And your finished paint jobs should probably go in the showroom. Anyway, welcome. Please do introduce yourself and tell us about your Oldhammer interests in the Introductions area. What sorts of things do you most like? What kinds of miniatures? What games? Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.
