Current oldhammer pricing?

What is the best way to figure out how much an oldhammer miniature is currently selling for. I was recently offered some Jes Goodwin ogres for sale and I wasn't sure how much to offer. Also I have lots of Rogue Trader miniatures, but I don't know what their trade or sell value should be. Are finished ebay auctions the best way to find out the going rate for regular oldhammer miniatures?

There is a pricing guide in the Private Sale/Trade section of the forum. It doesn't list everything, but it gives you an idea of what is actually rare and what fair prices are. Ebay prices tend to be inflated, but in general I would say a common figure should go for between $3-$5 for a normal infantry sized model.

Thank you. That helps a bit. The problem with the list in the Trade section is that it only lists specific rare stuff. It doesn't list things like Champions of chaos, or beastmen or ogres, since I guess most people on the forum already know that kind of stuff. I guess lurking on the facebook trading forums would probably be the best way to get an idea on pricing.

PM me if youd like. I've bought and sold the entire JG ogre collection several times, and am re-collecting it again!

Hey Urion

The price is really subjective, I always say that a model is worth what you are willing to (in the case of ebay) pay for it and in a private sale what the seller is willing to accept, the rarer models do have a semi fixed price that the community all appear to agree upon, but as Mr Lopez says a common infantry model is worth 0.99 - 5 quid - I read somewhere that in the Golden era of the mid - late 80's Citadel shifted circa 1 million models each week........ so there are a lot of them in circulation.

The Ogres as an average tend to sell for 10GBP so around $15USD I'd say, but I'm sure for a bulk buy you could lower the average per model.

Pay what YOU are happy to pay and that way you will not feel cheated ;)

Cheers

Gary

Thank you. It was 6 ogres so I was thinking $10 each for the lot, but as I don't have any money right now I had to decline. I'm sure the shipping would have been pretty expensive though. Mainly when someone asks you to offer them a price rather than tell you how much they want for them I am nervous about naming a price when I have no idea because I don't want the person to think I am trying to lowball them.

When someone asks you to name a price it is generally the opposite, they most likely hope you offer an above average price in the interest of securing the deal ;) If you're offer is too low to begin with then the seller will say no anyway so you can go back in with a second offer or the seller themselves might say the price they were looking for.

You can always ask or drop members a PM whom you know if you're unsure about prices etc to get some advice from the seasoned collectors around here

eBay sold items are the best guidelines, as it's what people out in the real world are willing to pay. People buying off forums or trading groups will expect a little less, as you're not paying fees, and your supposed to be part of a "community" (aka price fixing syndicate  ). If you're trading, then really just whatever you think is fair between you.

But as King Arthur says, if you post photos I'm sure some folk would happily value your stuff.

Would a more detailed pricing for the 'commons' would be a good thing? FWIW I think the rares pricing is intended to be descriptive rather than prescriptive, but it's kind of inevitable prices begin to congeal.

I am less concerned about selling than I am about buying, trading and understanding where the "value" of an oldhammer miniature comes from. I would rather trade someone on one of the oldhammer pages, to "keep it in the family" so to speak, than sell it on ebay. I've gone through and looked at all the rare and hard to find minis to make sure I don't get taken advantage of myself, but when it comes to the average mini there isn't as much information. A good example is a Bob Olley citadel beastman. I have discovered recently that Bob Olley is my favorite oldhammer sculptor and that his old beastmen are my favorite, but because Jes Goodwin is the favorite son, my second favorite sculptor, almost all you see are beastmen by Jes Goodwin. Does that mean Bob Olley's beastmen are less valuable because they aren't as popular? Are they more valuable because they are harder to find? Or are they worth the same price? I have found that miniatures that came out at the same time don't necessarily hold the same value, even if their rarity is the same. So far the two things I've seen that drive value up are rarity and sculptor popularity. The problem comes from the fact that the sculpts that are not as popular are less seen and appear to be more rare, and tend to be more expensive because of that. I guess a "rarity guide" would probably be of the most use. Having a "uncommon" "common" label, referring to availability in the current market, attached to groups of models would help a lot in determining how much a given miniature could be worth to a buyer/trader. For example are either of these beastmen more rare? Because I see a lot more of the Goodwin sculpt than the Olley sculpt.

There really is only one way to do it. Decide what it is worth to you and offer that amount, or bid up to it on ebay, or offer what you think is a fair swap. If you never get your hands on what you want then probably you'll need to up the offer some time or decide that you don't need the thing you want.

I don't think anyone would be insulted by a low offer, they can say no, to which you in turn shouldn't be offended. Thats trade no?
