Collecting Hobgoblins

As there happens to be a large number Greenskin/Hobgoblin collectors on here I would like you knowledge and advice.

Now I have never really researched/looked into Hobgoblins but they have had a appeal with me since I owned a 5th Ed Chaos Dwarf Big Hat force as a youngster. So I have a few questions for those have collected/collect them.

Is there a complete compiled Citadel Hobgoblin collecting list?
What Citadel Hobgoblin ranges are there? (By Citadel I mean anything sold though GW)
What are the hardest most sort after pieces? (Other then a temple dog)
What sort of prices I'm I expecting to have to pay?
Anything else I need to know before diving in?

Many thanks for your time,
Chico

And not forgetting the Hobhound Handler, the Hobgoblin Rocket & crew, and the odd hobgob in various box sets - I thonk there was one in each of the dungeon monster sets (pre slotta and slotta eras). There's also Gythorinki the Strangler, ok I just made up his first name but I thinl he's pictured on the wiki.

*What Citadel Hobgoblin ranges are there? (By Citadel I mean anything sold though GW): CM9 preslotta Chronicle, N12 Chronicle, Morrison preslotta, Morrison slotta, ADD 54, WFB 4th Perry (Chaos Dwarf), & Dogs of War wolfriders.

*What are the hardest most sort after pieces? (Other then a temple dog): Gyokurinti the Strangler is rare & goes for $25 - $60 depending on the weather & the condition of the mini.

*What sort of prices I'm I expecting to have to pay?: Figure $7 - $10/figure for Morrison sculpts & $9 - $14/figure for N12 Lund sculpts. Some of the slotta Morrison sculpts are hard to find & will go for far more occasionally. DoW cavalry can run $10 - $25/model. Don't pay more than $20 for the Morrison Rocket Team. There are scads of them out there. Sorry, but I haven't tracked Perry costs.

*Anything else I need to know before diving in? There are hordes of recasts of the WFB 4th Perry sculpts. Amassing non-Perry wolfriders & archers is a serious project. ;)

Really? I like those models for nostalgia reasons, but they're not great models. I'm apprised there are lots of recasts.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

The 4th ed ones are super popular dew to the fact they're the last Hobbo's released and with Chaos Dwarves getting the Warhammer Forge treatment more people then even want them as they are actually rather good (Read cheap) in the 8th Ed ToC book.

I've painted some of them up for my CD force:

Yeah, I'm not a fan of them either, especialy in comparison with the earlier sculpts. Hobgoblins are part of the Chaos Dwarf Army List, and the later models have been pricey for years - CD collectors can be quite enthusiastic, so perhaps recasters are being opportunistic. Not confirming there are a lot of recasts out there, might just be post 1993 crapcast ;)

Perry hobgobs, MM90s, & classic Chaos dwarfs are constantly being pumped out in the U.S. along with classic chaos champs, nurgle palanquins, genestealer thrones, etc. Unless you own the originals, or are overly familiar with legit Citadel stuff, you might not know the difference. They are typically good reproductions.

For collecting, I think it helps to figure out if you want your hobgobs as weedy Chaos Dwarf buddies from the WFB 4th+ realm or as part of their own horde of frenzied renegades who are "the second largest of the goblinoid races" ala WFB 2nd.
I never thought the 4th & 2nd ed. models looked good together, but there are alternative miniature lines worth considering for both. 4th ed alternates are pretty heavily discussed at the CDO forums, but you could use Citadel Uruks, Olley's Oriental Orcs, & Otherworld hobgobs alongside the 2nd ed. minis without too much fuss.

Thank you Chico...Now I've got the bug. Must not spend any money...

BTW, there is quite a bit of fluff in the old WFRP book "Something Rotten in Kislev."

Two quick questions for the hobgoblin experts here.

1. What range were the collector's series originally from:
http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/File:Collectors_Series_1606.jpg

2. How hard is it to get those AD and D models?

those two are from c36 range
http://www.sodemons.com/dhurst/dhhobgoblins/

The AD&D models come up on ebay quite regularly, but seem to be quite sought after too
I haven't bothered collecting any of them myself as imho the otherworld hobgoblins fill the classic 'keep on the borderlands' style hobgoblins better, and are much easier to get a hold of

The c36 are pre-slotta, right? Those two collector's models are slotta versions, right? Did they convert any of the other c36 to slotta?

How do those otherworld hobgoblins scale compared to gw stuff? A lot of their other stuff seems more "realistically" proportioned that citadel.

Oh, and one more thing. For the AD and D ones, are they usually labeled as such, or just more genetically as hobgoblins?

c36 were originally pre-slotta, then slotta, I 'think' the range was expanded once they went slotta, there are certainly figures like baron bloodgore (second left) i've never seen in pre-slotta versions
the ad&d ones are usually labelled as such, occasionally as TSR AD&D

size comparison, bear in mind the citadel ones are sitting higher as they had solid bases, or like the baron here I built up his bases with greenstuff and he's not sitting in the slot
