Classic Bugman's, Mengil's, Beastmen and thugs [PICS]

Hello again all, I'm digging through my archives again to show some more classic painted lead. It's likely that you've seen some of these before as there's nothing new to show here (just the way we like it ;)).

I prefer to keep the pictures in the opening post (I'm not too much into starting a log) but if it's a nuisance feel free to merge this post with my other topics :).

I'll hit off with the start, I was out of a job and ventured into commission painting as a way of paying the bills. My first customer was our very own phreedh, who sent me the first edition Bugman's Rangers to paint:

Phreedh wanted the models unbased so the pictures you see here are the ones he himself took after basing them. These pictures are much better than the ones I took as at the time I was in between moving and had no scenic background in which to show them off.

The first edition champion is notoriously difficult to get hold of so this is the second incarnation of Jorj Ruddle you see here. I did my best to make him fit in.

Phreedh wasn't my only customer (fortunately) and he wasn't the only one who wanted me to paint his classic lead. This of course made me very happy. This mix of old and new beastmen I painted for Mason on the Lead Adventure Forum. He uses them in Mordheim and you can read about his exploits in this lengthy (but cool) topic:

As you can see the bases look a bit lame, they were basecoated for finishing by Mason himself, and finish them he did. Pictures were done by Mason's significant other (if I'm not mistaken) and the terrain is by Mason:

Mason wanted the models in red skin with white fur, which wouldn't have been my own choice but he was happy with them.

For thebinmann on the Lead Adventure Forum I painted a bunch of thugs all armed with clubs, the models are mostly Citadel (one Foundry) and they are rather spiffy.

They had to be given a rough, poor, scum of the earth look so I made them rather dirty with faded colours.

Quite the opposite of faded colours were this bunch, also done for phreedh, Mengil Manhide's Manflayers:

I painted them in black with four different bright pastel colours for variation.

Pictures and basing are done by phreedh. As with Bugman's, my own pictures were rather lame.

As you can see they don't just flay men, the women also flay women!

For thebinmann I also painted some opposition for his thugs in the form of some beastmen. This colour scheme is much closer to what I would choose:

For Mason, as opposition to his beastmen (and mostly to the other people in his Mordheim campain) I also painted these Kislevites, made up from vaious Citadel Fighters and some other models.

Mason based these as well and the pictures you see are his (as is the terrain). I did not paint all of these models either. The fighter with the gun (top row, fourth from left), Ogre, Bear and fighter next to the bear (our right side) are done by others, but fit in well!

Enjoy these close-ups:

And that's about all the classic lead I painted for others. I never really got into collecting humans for fantasy so it was cool to paint some for others. In the end I got a job and now I have no more time for commissions. I hope you enjoyed these pictures!

Pil these are great. I love the old school style you have going on. The beastmen are my favorite! Would love to see more of your work so fill the forum up.

Glad to be of service! And thanks for the nice comments of course. I'm quickly running out of old pictures though so after that it's down to whatever's newly painted and old school 8)

Nice to see Mengil Manhide's Manflayers up there as the command models are my favourite Dark Elf models from that era. The colour scheme is not one I'd go for myself but it works very nicely given how static the trooper models are.

The other stuff is rather nice as well. :)

Splendid job you did! Just wish I would ever got to actually play with the damned things! Oh well, all in good time I suppose. =)

As you say I have seen your work on Frothers ... but great to see it all again.
Love your Bugmans. Huge inspiration to paint my own.
Great Chaos stuff. The simple scheme works well and ties together the selection of minis beautifully.
Great stuff.
