Working on a set of city walls I've wanted to do for a while, trying to get them turned around nice and quickly to be used in a Siege of Praag game at BOYL. As a basis I'm using a plastic 1/72 kit from MiniArt, but expected to have to make some modifications for the sake of scale.

Now, besides doors, arrow loops, etc, I actually think the scale feels okay, but nonetheless the walls are a bit short. They're not unrealistically short - just not as imposing as I'd like. I was thinking of maybe extending them downwards, but I'm not confident in my ability to carve foam to replicate the plastic stone pattern, so I've done some more research and come across what I think is a good answer - I'm going to have these walls sitting on a 5cmish tall earthwork. I don't think this was particularly common for medieval city walls in a lot of places, especially those places with the most advanced military tech like in France and Italy which seem to have had nice tall stone walls.
York on the other hand has very similar walls! The stone walls themselves are only 13ft tall, which I think matches the scale in the photo pretty well, and they sit upon tall earthworks! Since my Empire army is from the Middenland, and the BOYL game will be set in Kislev, I think a slightly less state-of-the-art set of walls would be acceptable. I was thinking it would be very steep on the outside but nice and gentle on the inside. One downside of this is that if I want any lean-to buildings on the inside of the wall they might not work so well and will have to be permanently modelled rather than being modular.
What do you think? Is building up 5cm of earth beneath these walls going to be adequate to make them suitably imposing? Any tips on how I should do it to make sure it actually looks decent?
