Cheaphammer

I don't think that I should stink up the Showroom with some of the plastic horror that will follow but I would like to post some of the silly cheap things I have used in Warhammer armies recently, perhaps trying to create a more simple vibe than the current OTT expensive models.

My first offering is the re-issue of the old Polar Lights "Lost in Space" Cyclops. It's a rather basic but fun hard plastic kit and can often be obtained from American sources on e-bay.

It's a fun sub for a giant but I grabbed one as a Cygor for the current beastman army, a unit which for a long while had no official GW figure. I wrestled it on to a 50x50mm base but the official model is now with a 50x100mm base.

Enjoy!!

Man ! If it wasn't for the colour of the base, I would have sworn it was Harry's work! The face of this giant is absolutely great ! Almost looks as early Blanche work. The rest of the sculpt is a bit ... well, not too refined let's say but it's serving its purpose in the most honorable way and you paintjob brings the best of it.
I really like cheaphammer as you sometimes can get really good surprise (actually working on a rubber plastic rooster and a deostick grav-attack myself...)

This cyclops was very cheap, under a tenner, from forbidden planet. Cheap hammer is my favorite.

Whoa, awesome cyclops Erny! And it's the right scale?

Good old ActionFigureHammer! Nice mini too.

Next offering are some $2 resin gargoyles based up on 40x40mm bases. I got them for the White Dwarf Army of the Carins list as Animated Statues but they are now living a double life as Vargheists, the Ogre sized batty vampy filying thingy in the latest VC list

And some cheap plastic D&D Naga repainted and based for use as Sepulchral Stalkers when my Cairns army pretends it is Tomb Kings

@Padre : Your treemen are genius.
@Duck ... love the gargoyles where are they from?

Likewise - loving the Treeman in particular (and totally outlclassed in the cheap stakes)

@Harry - the gargoyles are just cheap resin figures; you sometimes see them in witchy new age shops.

Gargoyles and Snakemonsters are spendid too. I really should have bought those statues when I was in Burley (thanks Gaj ;) ).

Cheaphammer really is in the DNA of Oldhammer for me. Just look at all the toys, deo-sticks and things of the sort that were used back in the days.

How stable are the dryads/treeman--do they sometimes lose branches in the heat of battle?
My main concern woudl be that treemen get fired up in the heat of the battle ;)

Love them all!

I think they've lost little bits every now and again, but you can't tell. As they get older and older they get weaker. But, who cares? They're twigs. I'll make some new ones if ever I have to.

The weird double basing is my fault. Not owning the actual models I didn't know what the official base size was, so I based them wrong. Solution = stick a bigger base on the bottom.

Here's an exercise in contrast, not dryads, not treeman but treekin ...

Two old treemen (one with a replaced head 'cos the original disappeared) as treekin, and a twigman treekin. I know which one I like best!

They all look great but "Twiggy" is the most fun!

I used a repainted/based WOWC plant thingy as a Treeman for the Sewer Elfs

I love the cheephammer thing, I have never paid more than £50 for an army!. My best find recently were 6 giant spiders and 6 giant frogs in a £ bag of boys party favours from Asda!, im sure the bag is still in stock too!. Playing in 1:72 scale you can get loads of inf and cav, even artillery can be cheaply modelled but its the monsters and such that require the thought and can lead to all kinds of fun finds!. Im currently putting together a nurgle army using the hobbit ranges Goblin king as a great unclean one!.

some nice ideas here, many Poundland type shops have cheap fantasy action figures available, now not all of them are good, but with a little work, some would make ideal denizens for dungeons....
