Post: Chaos Warband Part 3
Hello!
This is the third post looking at my 28mm evil chaos baddies project. As previously mentioned, I've built the warband around a 24 point Dragon Rampant list but with WFB 2nd or 3rd edition in mind for later.
Without delay, lets have a look at the most eye catching model in the warband - the two headed giant!
This old grenadier model was very generously given to me my bud Matthew. It was a fantastic figure to paint with such a lot of character in the faces. He's a bit mad too, as you can see below next to a 28mm figure. Since taking these pics I've remembered that I've got a gnome casualty from Old School Miniatures that I plan to paint and attach to the base.
He will go into the Dragon Rampant list as a Greater Warbeast and, being subject to the Wild Charge rule, is certain to get into some unfortunate situations. In WFB 3rd ed. the giants get a nice set of rules with plenty of fun special attacks allowing them to stuff the a foe into a sack, ride down a hillside on a captured wagon and headbutt flying creatures, amongst other things.
Next up are the centaurs. I've painted three of these guys from Eureka Miniantures and I'm vaguely planning to bulk up the unit with three more. I'm keen on the models, as basic as they are, and I've given them a pretty basic paintjob. The three newbies who will eventually join the unit will get snazzier paintjobs, perhaps tiger stripes, zebra stripes and leopard spots.
The Slaanesh list in Slaves To Darkness has a profile for a meaner sort of centaur with access to chaos attributes and a grisly description that notes that "No act that brings new pleasure is too debased for these warped creatures." Grisly stuff in keeping with the rest of the book and a bit more like it for a chaotic centaur.
In The Lost & The Damned we get centaur warbands for the hardcore centaur purists. There's a good bit of descriptive text before the warband stats and some super illustrations. These are not the elusive forest dwelling creatures from the WFB bestiary but snarling, angry drunks lashing out with crude bludgeoning weapons.
I'm not sure where my centaurs are going to land in the WFB world. They look a bit more like they will fit into the bestiary mould rather than the Realm Of Chaos version. I could imagine them emerging from a wood to ambush some orcs to the surprise of both the orcs and their foes. Perhaps they would have the bestiary profile with the Scouts special unit rule thrown in. And that's the fun of this set of rules. There is so much space to make the fantasy realm what you want it to be.
Anyway, that will do for now. My Dragon Rampant warband is ready for action and I have a number of WFB ideas buzzing around my head. After I have a moment to photograph the models all together I'll revisit this warband in another post to go through the lists at some point. Hopefully in the meantime I can get them on the table and crush some elf heads.

For the Dragon Rampant list I'm using the light cavalry profile for my centaurs so they will be skirmishing, screening and galloping around avoiding being charged. In WFB 3rd ed. centaurs get a fairly basic treatment in the bestiary. They hate hobgoblins, have a stomp attack and have the full range of hero and wizard level. They're also reclusive goodies, which is no good for me, so we have to turn to the Realms of Chaos books for the evil variety.
