Bretonnian Knightly Orders.

Reading the WFB 4th ed get you by lists that came in the box set Bretonnian knights are either Feudal Knights or Knightly Orders, have there ever been examples in the old lore of any Knightly orders or any old minis that predate 4th ed? I'm familiar with the studio army painted up at the end of 3rd ed, think it was WD #138 that I had with one of the articles in. My knowledge of Bretonnian minis and lore before that is virtually non existent.

Knightly Orders I am only aware of for the Empire army, 3e onwards.

In 6th ed, I think, Bretonnians got Knightly Virtues, which allowed you to give Knight units buffs, but fluff wise, I am only aware of Knights and mounted squires.

Do you take these as Knightly Orders? For me Knightly Orders is like the Knights of the White Wolf, Knights Panthers etc which have a certain aesthetic and fluff.

What you shared from 3e armies I only took as names for the different levels/qualities of knights; not as anything fluff wise.

Cavaliers d'honneur just sounds more bretonnian than +4 shock elite...

I do, as in 3rd the empire orders as you describe them are the same. (shock elites)
If you read the fluff at the bottom, it names the orders.

It was just the beginning of the lore as we know it.

We will not agree on that point :)

For me, in 3e there were no Knightly Orders, rules wise. There were general tiers of knights, without any special rules or fluff. Yes, names are given there, but I am not aware of any more specific details. What is the difference according to that entry between a Knight Panther and a Gryphon Legion knight? Just a name as far as I am concerned.

In 4e, Knights Panther for example was its own army list entry, with own fluff, etc.

But in the end it doesn't really matter :)

LOL. What are your thoughts on the 3rd edition stuff?
I can do some photos of the whole army lists if you like, probably some fluff in there that may be of interest?

Im liking the 3rd ed stuff, kinda wish they kept the idea of knightly orders though, an order dedicated to hunting down undead would have been good.

Does anybody know if there was ever painted examples of the Chevalier's D' Honneur or Chevalier's de Notre Dame de Bataille in White Dwarf? I'm curious on potential heraldry and colour schemes now, got a few ideas but can't make my mind up.

I'll grab the old lists off the internet later, that way no one gets into trouble here.
