board etiquette

is it considered bad form to bump really old threads because you are reading the forum from the beginning and back in 2012 there was an interesting thread that you want to comment on?

on some forum thread necromancy is considered bad form and the best practice is to start a new thread.

just interested as i'm still n00b and don't want to annoy people!

Personally I don't mind.

Hey, isn't digging up old things from the past and doing new things with them what it's all about !?!

If our own forum newsbot sees fit to repost Just John's landing pad tutorial every few months then I think the precedent is well and truly set

One thing that might be worth noting is if you do dig up something old that needs to be revisited then it's considered polite to add something meaningful to the conversation (unless it's just an awesome photo gallery in which case we don't need an additional reason to look again ).

One favour though - please please please don't restart any of the 'What is Oldhammer?' threads... those thing are so 6 months ago ;)

Exactly all of these above

I think it's actually better to add something meaningful to an old thread rather than opening a new one just to end up with the same conversation as it happens far too often on FB for example.

You noticed that too CC - I've no idea why it happens. Although it does happen soon after I make sacrifice to the gods of technomancy...

I don't think there's any problem with a bit of threadomancy as long as you're adding to the thread and not just posting for the sake of it.

The first time it happened it wasn't just yours that got reposted but since then it just keeps coming back for more launch pad love. And every time i see it i feel vaguely guilty that I haven't built one yet... :s

I fully intend to resurrect certain of my threads when the need arises. For example I have a Slann army one which I have not updated in a number of months as I have been busy working on other projects but when I get some more stuff done for it they will get posted to that thread so that all the content is in one place for posterity.

Threadomancy is hardly an issue on this forum, the members are very well behaved and can even handle maturely talking about sensitive issues when the need has arisen in the past.

It took some hard lessons though but yes !

Arrise!

Actually a different question about etiquette - actually 2 questions.

1) swearing?
2) miniatures with exposed genitalia?

I'm not 100% comfortable with either, having been forced to see the word "b*stards" in a subject line, which seems like needless vulgarity and lowering the tone of what is generally a congenial type place.

Then I just stopping myself posting an image of a Citadel FTT Troll (specifically this one, which I can see the funny side of, but not exactly family friendly, whereas FFT4 I'm not even going to link to! Then again I have the ADD mino and the Otherworld Bugbears, which are all present and correct).

Just wondered what the general opinion might be (knowing there are other parents, and some teachers here, etc. etc.)

neither bother me particularly. but i have a crude and childish sense of humour.

that fetish troll is pretty great actually. i think i need to get him.

I personally don't have any problem with both concepts, the public of the forum is mainly male adults about 40 or so...

Maybe tagging with spoiler tags and telling that the subject is NSFW is enough ?

I have the same view on swearing on the forum as i do in real life - only do it when it's really appropriate and /or funny. Actually that's my view on exposed genitals too...

I don't think any of these are issues right now apart from a very limited number of cases and I also believe it won't affect people much around here given th edemogrpahics of this forum like Bruno Said.

That said I'm with the Captain about the swearing and nudity, I think with the talents here we don't have to resort to these lower forms of expressions.
