Post: Blood Bowl Lizards

About a year ago I started painting my second Lizardman team for Blood Bowl. I already had the older GW lizards done but I really fancied the Warploque figures so I placed the order, painted a few of them and then somewhere along the way my enthusiasm was diverted to some other project.

However, the imminent release of the new edition of BB and a nagging desire to tie off some of the many half finished projects combined to refocus my attention on these figures.

So, here they are finished at last.

I really like these models, particularly the dorky little skinks. They were really easy to paint too, which is always a massive bonus for me. I do also have the GW plastic kit from last year so one day it looks like I'll have three lizardman teams. Is that unnecessary? Yes. Will I do it anyway? Also yes.

I'm a big fan of Lizardmen in Blood Bowl. They're fast, strong, tough and explosive. The roster is pretty straight forward and the team more of less picks itself.

Last year the lizards got an update in their issue Spike! magazine. The star players shaken up (bye bye Slibli, welcome Anqi Panqi) and they got a new player on the roster - the chameleon skink. He's slightly slower than the normal skink and has a couple of weird skills in pass block and shadowing. I've not used the chameleon but I think I will take on in the new edition. It looks a bit more useful on the new roster being the only player on the team who can pass the ball in an even vaguely consistent manner, and sometimes you need to combine your high MV with a pass and hand off to move the ball from your own end zone all the way to your opponent's.

Below is my previously painted lizardman team. They're the GW models from somewhere around 2000 or 2001, although I got mine second hand from the cabinets at my local shop Wargames Emporium in Sheffield. Somebody must have been selling off their collection because I picked up some other teams besides these. What a fine day it was.

Anyway, that's all for now. I still have to finish my orc chainsaw player for what was supposed to be Orctober and I've been finishing off a couple of big guys along with half finished halfling, human and wood elf teams and that's before I even get started on the currently bare dwarfs and amazons.

Luckily, I'm pretty excited about the new edition so I'll ride the wave of enthusiasm until some other project inevitably grabs me.
