And I hate to say it, I think it looks good and well priced. I await abuse.......

Screw the abuse, I agree completely.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, GW/FW are producing some of the best stuff they've made in over 20 years. They're really at the top of their game at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, don't think I would buy the box set (unless the rules turned out to be brilliant) as I have many many pitches, rules, dugouts etc. But £12 for a team that looks good and retro enough to not be out of place next to my currently owned stuff? Sign me up!

The rules are the standard competition rules that came out of the Living Rule Book, so it's the same as any BB tournament. Specialist Games were determined not to massively piss off their audience by messing around with the rules that have been in use for a decade or so, as BB still has a huge following.

Must admit, I never really like Blood Bowl (it's a bit too much like 'sport' for my liking!), but I'm glad they've gone with a sympathetic updating.

No abuse from this quarter! I have to say GWs latest releases and products seem more reasonably priced and more in touch with their roots than they have been for years.... perhaps we are entering a renaissance!

Well apart from the fact the artwork makes it look like world of warcraft, I gotta say the pricing's not bad and the board looks good. :)

Pre-ordered pretty much everything available, needed a new board as mine looks like its had thousands of games played on while doubling up as a beer mat, which it has :) The pricing is sensible the skaven actually seem cheap, however theres still that voice in my head telling me its GW there gonnna screw things up somehow..... :?

I passed on Bloodbowl at the time (although I did paint up a couple of teams for GW stores, the minis were really nice) and by the time I noticed the Mantic version it looked too complex for a pic-up game so I am thinking seriously about this. Is it simple enough for occasional pick-up games of do you need to dedicate a bit of learning to it?

You should be able to pick up the vast majority of it after one slow(ish) learning game. It's really not a complex game. As I said, I'm not a huge fan and I can probably remember how to play most of it after not touching it for a decade.

As the rules in the new box are basically the CRP rules, you can get them (legitimately!) for free here and have a quick skim through if you want:
