Blood Bowl base rings.

Impact Miniatures do various coloured "skill" rings which might suit your purposes.

Had those pointed out on LAF but they're really not the same thing. I need that slotta base edge but without the hassle of cutting the top out of a bunch of regular bases.

The ones from Impact are rubber bands. I don't think anyone produces the ones shown in the picture.
Also, be aware that the grey base shown in your picture is not a standard 25mm base. It's slightly smaller and becomes 25mm once you attach the ring.

Key bands like these are 1" (25mm) in diameter externally. I bet a careful job with a modelling knife could convert the insides to slope and fit the bases. They are rubbery and stretchy so they should fit.

Simon, do you still need them? I have a bunch that I'll never use.

For those not in the know (sniff) - the original Blood Bowl bases were smaller than 25mm in diameter, to accommodate the coloured ring.

I'm good for now thanks. :)

It's a bizarre design choice made by GW because as far as I'm aware they were unique to that game and didn't get used anywhere else. Surely it would have been easier to just produce the regular bases in different colours instead of the rigmarole of designing a whole new thing?!

I'm fairly certain, some of the (later?) 2nd ed boxes actually came with coloured bases instead. At least the DungeonBowl box.

I'm sure they got included with 1st Ed Space Hulk to mark the sergeants and special weapons of the Termie squads if using the standard plastics. At least that's the only place I can think I got them from. Maybe AHQ as well?

Just different coloured bases in SH. Red for one squad, grey for the other.

My 2nd edition box (bought back in the day) did not come with base rings. It came with different colour 25mm bases.

I can only assume that since I bought mine second hand somebody had used the blood bowl bases to denote troop types in that way then. Well you live and learn.

Brilliant find, Condottiero!

Saw Eccentric's rings on TMP a few months ago, but then forgot what they were called, so had to ask and kept referring to 'em as those base enhancers. Didn't know about Secret Weapon Miniatures' version - according to a product review video, requires some trimming - and can't tell the difference between Eccentric's group A and B and whether these also require modification for a perfect fit. Group A is also available in a pack of 100 for $22 + shipping and $3 for 4 rings vs 10 for $5 + shipping from SWM. I need the adapters for Orcs, largish barbarians and Space Marines, while keeping Imperial Guard on 25s. None of GW's new round bases have attachment slots.

AHQ already used standard bases of different colors.
Only three colors are needed for AHQ though, while Blood Bowl required 5.
Maybe the sheer amount of different colors was the reason to go with the rings. But yeah, interesting design choice.
