Bending Metal

Not for any particular model right now, but I do have a few in the future which it'll be helpful for but any advice on bending Metal.

Normally, if I need to bend say, an Arm, I try to carefully do it by hand (though i've had a few figures where it's just snapped so required a bit of glueing) but sometimes, it's a bit of a thicker bit or tougher metal and I have used pilers,, however... I don't know if it's purely a matter of pressure but I find to get the right grip and bend, it can end up distorting the metal texture a fair bit with the grips from the pilers.. which isn't very good, and in some cases just make them a bit flatter..

Any tips? or just a case of try to be careful and use as little preasure as possible?

It's a toughie. I use round-nosed pliers and sometimes wrap a piece of thin plastazote or blister pack foam around them to provide some cushioning, then be very gentle... Actually depending on how much you want to bend sometimes it's just easier to snip, pin and do a touch of GS repair work.

Use some rubber between pliers and figure. Rubber helps to avoid damage to figure and helps with grip.

Thicker metal has other problems too. It may bend from wrong place as force gets divided evenly between strongest part like torso and the grip point. If distance between strong point and grip point is too short it can snap or tear apart.

Try it gently with small increments. Good luck.
