Because I'm an Idiot: Miniature Advent Calendar?

remembering some of the more 'adult' advent calendars you can get like model kits, Dice etc.. Any one seen a Miniature one? Come on, I can see a Market for that..
25 Days.. each day a Metal (or resin if need be) 28mm Miniature. Last day is twice the size as it's a Troll or Ogre Father Christmas... something a bit bigger then normal but not overly..

Problem is.. mm.. Could it be knocked out for £50... possible a bit more but I think that's stupidly too much if much higher... some days could kinda be cheaper with say... an animal like.. Giant Rat with Reindeer antlers.

Love the idea, but yep possibly problematic for someone to actually turn a profit on the thing. Which is a shame.

Surprised in some ways a larger company with a wide audience base they can advertise to quickly like GW have not done something like that - I'd have thought it could be worth the injection moulding costs and they just need to throw in a couple of "one off" (ish) models to ensure it sells out - you know the "captain brother such and such" famous hero of the imperium.

For other companies I guess one big issue is theming - what do you do - a mix of models, fantasy, sci-fi. So that it appeals to enough people. If it's moderately expensive then I think you need to feel like you'd want at least 90% of the models.

Maybe the answer to a theme is you'd have to do it as a game with the box becoming the board or something? I guess maybe you could then get it down to say 6 characters, 10 monsters, 2 boss monsters and 7 bits like objectives and perhaps a couple of dice to keep costs down. You might get more cross buyer appeal that way - do a fantasy game one year, sci-fi the next, horror the one after (or is that a bit off for Christmas?)

Still great idea even if the numbers might not actually be practical.

I don't know if they still do them, but I think Schleich, the german model company (who do have the odd model good for miniature gaming) did a advent calendar or two which all the models could be used for a little basic board game.

I guess a MAJOR cut down version would be like them 12 day calendars but.. not a fan of them personally ^_^

As for wanting the models.. mm.. Seen some of the Lego ones? not really.. much there.. I've seen a number of really bad calendars.. Eagle Moss did some total crap for over £100 each (yikes).

though a basic board game wouldn't be too hard.. a very simple cut down thing just to make it seam like a bit more.. mm..

I did look into it a couple of years ago but shelved it as too expensive at the time. I am surprised with its multi part plastic love GW hasn't done one, maybe they have.

did you know in japan, GW has done blind bags of 40W blood angels? local gaming shop has some and they aren't.. worth being a blind bag series ¬_¬

probably. Just looked like generic standard plastic mini which you used to be able to get a squad of 5 with metal arms/weapons for about £10. Didn't pay too much attention to them.

My local gaming shop has the Heroes range - as I understand each "set" consists of five models, but each "shelf display box" of six packets is guaranteed to contain all five models - so most people buy a "shelf box" and accept getting a duplicate! I've no idea if they are popular or not.

I would say not very popular.. it sounds like a bad way to get a few cheap generic marines.. would have thought special characters would have been better but they just look super generic, like warehouse overstock

found out a few years back, as part of the license deal, Bandai did a Warhammer 40K 'Chibi' calendar where.. each day you got the same mini but in a different chapter colour.. pretty cheap (but not to buy now).. GW did alot of cheap poster calendars, and someone did make a 12 day miniature one but it was just a random 3d print miniature they do in each day.. generic boxes, basic overstock.. (well.. with 3D printed ones.. probebly not really 'overstock' persay..

Something to consider for next year then... I wonder if you can buy print-your-own design but generic cavity empty advent calendar kits.

kinda, yes. I think things like 'The Works' often do wooden ones but there are often places you can find them

I already have high blood pressure, kinda hard to say about the brain damage... too many other related issues ^_^ but a bit of lead isn't good but wouldn't be the worse thing.

interesting to see what might happen next year ^_^

Quotes are back in. Looks like the calendar would have to retail at £20-25 and I would need to sell 50 of them for it to be viable... Not impossible, maybe a Kickstarter project?

sounds good to me. I think a KS might be a good way to go about it for raising the money for it. I see some chocolate advent calendars for over £25 (seriously.. you can buy a 'Luxury chocolate' calendar for £40 and the chocolates are the size of Caramel Swirls in Quality Street.. would get more enjoyment out of the miniatures I think

Excellent. Maybe something a bit more traditionally fantasy? Could even have a multipart monster/dragon thing in it that you got a piece of on certain days... Want to think of some possible themes? :)
