BattleMasters Banner confusion

ManicMan

Lord
Almost finished up my Mighty Cannon (hope to finish and take some photos in a week or so) and I decided to start on some knights. The ones i've picked first are the Knights of the White Wolf.. or atleast,.. well.. I'm not sure on the old of this but.. If i'm right, the UK version, they were more 'inline' with Warhammer stuff, and so were the Knights of the White Wolf.. but the US version, they were more generic (and i guess, easiler for people who are a bit dumber to notice who is who) and called 'Duke Blitzein's Imperial Knights (putting bold on the Imperial Knights bit).. while they still keep SOME warhammer references..

Anyway. the title here saids Banner Confusion.. In Warhammer, the White Wolfs banner is.. well a white wolf.. In Battle Masters.. i have no clue what that is.. apart from the japanese Katakana for 'Ki'.. I'm trying to kinda keep the 'official' colours and stuff for some things and as this have the stickers on already (though i might do something about that) it would be nice if i could understand just what was meant to be going on with that for when i paint up some of the Heraldry..

i'm probably not your target audience, since i know nothing about battlemasters, but it might be helpful if you could upload a photo.

Ah, point ^_^

or.. since the US version used the same sticker sheet (apart from the unit labels), and I got some scans of them, I can easily take a copy of it from there. This is the symbol on the plain red Banner they use.

Just to fill you in, BattleMasters was created about 1992 as part of the Games Workshop/MB team up. Widly stated 'By the creators of HeroQuest' it was kinda like that in the way that the original UK Heroquest was an entry point to the Warhammer world (very much based in it but dealing with dungeon crawling), Battlemasters was a entry point to larger warhammer battles. you had a... very large battle mat and units of up to 5 figures, featuring the Empire vs 'Chaos'.. though by Chaos, it also includes Orcs and Goblins. Rules were pretty basic, you got well over 100 plastic figures featuring knights on horses, man-at-arm troopers, crossbows, archers, wolf riders, Orge, Cannon etc. another of the great ways to get nice citadel miniatures. they released two half-arsed add-ons which gave a minor but nice rule upgrade. The Original set you just had pre-defined armies, but the two add-ons, gave you a few more of the same figures but also rules which allowed you to apply a points cost to various units and by setting a points cost, create your own armies (I'm kinda interested to see if I can work out and gather up new armies like a Skaven side, maybe Undead etc..

As said, rules were very basic and in fact, used an interesting idea in that you turned over the top card in a armies deck, and i showed what units could be moved and do stuff that turn.. so you might get one player having quite a few turns before the other, but can lead to interesting strategies. One problem was.. the Matt you played on.. a nice single-sided Vinyl but.. 55 inchs by 57 inchs.. that's roughtly 4.5 foot square.. fairly large. Also had the odd bi of terrian changing features in a couple of hedges (plastic), 4 double sided card tiles (for lakes, spike pit, ford crossing) and the large 'Tower' which was a central part o the game.

Had a copy when young. well, family copy. Still got it but while I could find most I not all the empire figures, no chaos figures were to be found.. should be someplace.. In theory, you don't need the figures because of the movement trays... in the same way you can replace any miniature in a miniatures game with a card standee or just a base with a name on it.. but the figures are nice. Found someone selling a set which looked to be mostly complete and got a good deal on it, while he didn't say it was complete.. apart from the odd bit of damage (mostly broken lances), it was only missing two chaos Archers (which as they are in bases of 5, i can either just make up two groups of 4 instead of two of 5, OR, I'm probebly gonna proxy some skeleton archers as they fit well enough) and missing two trays, as well as a couple of bits of card.. apart from the miniatures, i can take what i need from my other copy to get a complete set.. so pretty happy their.

Another game from when Games workshop were a force to be reckoned with..
