Armature wire

As title says I'm after wire to make an armature. Bought some from Amazon Gauge 22 and although claimed to solid it was in fact cable, so unable to bend and keep the shape I wanted. So anyone point me in the right direction ? I'm UK based.

People have different preferences and these change over time. I currently like a 0.2mm steel wire, but have played with copper, aluminium and thicker gauges (though haven't yet ventured skinnier). How do you make/plan to make your armatures? A twisted armature will likely need different wire to a soldered one for example.

A simple twisted one.

Then I'd maybe look at aluminium wire. It's easier to adjust the shape as you go. Thinner aluminium wire can be too easily distorted though, so to uphold the structure maybe go for a 0.5/0.6mm? You could also try copper which is pretty malleable. You could go for a thinner gauge copper if you find a chunky aluminium is too bulky.

I have a couple of wires but I find they can be a bit too weak (as in, you can't get them into a bit of cork) so mostly I end up with not the best choice and that is Paper clips.. mostly cause I got tons of them to work through. much harder to twist and bend but not really hard

I've ordered some wire off Amazon so hopefully that will work, if not I will probably turn to paperclips.
