An obvious question

Firstly, which is the most popular old Warhammer ruleset here? I would guess 3rd edition.

Secondly, do you guys make up stats or adapt them for your chosen ruleset? For example, if I want dark elf corsairs in my 3rd edition dark elf army, I just make up their stats and point value in third edition terms.

Hi Jimmy,

I would hazard a guess that it is 3rd ed WFB (at least it is for me, even though I kinda liked 6th too) BUT, yes, you are correct.

I think the real spirit of Oldhammer is sussing out what you want and then applying the rulestats to it.

I guess the most popular versions would be 2nd and third. The reason behind it is because they let you build whatever army you want to (unless you want to stick radically to WH armies but this tends to ruin the idea of Oldhammer). Just build stats and PV out form the 2nd ed point value calculator and just use whatever you feel like using or need to use because of your scenario.
In the end, point values are not the most essential point anyway, if you're playing in the right moodset, you wouldn't care a bit about the game being balanced

What needs converting?

Corsairs are just dark elf warriors with two hand weapons and heavy armour.

Cool, but I have to ask: has anyone online converted these newer troop types to older editions already?

I'd suggest just add an appropriate int/wp/cool stat when "converting" troops. As already suggested, corsairs aren't anything too special, just use a dark elf with appropriate equipment.

And remember that part off the ethos of oldhammer is that fun is more important than the rules. Don't box yourself in like the later editions force you to.
