Alternative elven horses?

Martin

Hey,
Perhaps this has already been debated somewhere (sorry if so). I’m wondering if anyone of you knows of a good source for alternative elf horses? I have several wood elf riders but sadly I’m missing a lot of mounts. It would really be a shame to mount my lovely elves on one of the more recent plastic Jolly Jumper-style horrors. I’m looking for sort slender horses with some sort of light, elven feel to them. I know the same was discussed concerning Empire/Bretonnia knights and their mounts a while ago.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Nothing springs to mind Martin. I wondered if the old Grenadier (now Mirliton) wood elves had anything, but I've just checked and the riders are sculpted onto the horses - sorry :(

I was looking for something similar for my Dark Elves. In the end I co-opted High elf ones, but along the way I found some plastics I considered:

there's these from Wargames factory, which look quite slim:

There were also some persian or Mongol cavalry, but I can't seem to find the link now.

Thanks for your replies.

Those horses from Wargames Factory look quite promising. Ideally I would have loved to find some metal horses but these absolutely look worth a try.

Cheers

Not sure if you're still looking for these, but you could try some of the horses from gripping beast, the barded/half barded Rus horses match up with the old metal citadel elf ones quite nicely.

The horses I have from their medieval teutonic knights seem a bit stouter and wider though, probably not a goid match for the elves.

Also a good size are the musketeer/footsore miniatures horses.

The Assault Group has some interesting looking horses in their medieval Asian section too which might work, but I dont have any of them so cant comment on sizes.

I'm not sure this is correct. I got a couple of the grenadier mounted elves through Forlorn Hope Games and they came with horse and rider separate.

I got this one:http://www.forlornhopegames.co.uk/fantasy-warriors/product/1067-cavalry-archer/category_pathway-42
And this one: http://www.forlornhopegames.co.uk/fantasy-warriors/product/1043-warchief-mounted/category_pathway-42

Here's what they looked like when finished:

The only problem is that they don't sell the horses separately; however, it would definitely be worth inquiring at both Forlorn Hope and EM4 Miniatures (both of which have a portion of the Fantasy Warriors range) as to whether they would sell you some horses only.

Those Aventine minis are really rather good aren't they. Can't believe I've never heard of them before considering the quality. Any idea how they compare, scale wise, to our beloved fantasy range?

unfortunately I dont own any so I cant tell. I presume true 28mm like most of todays a historicals. So up to Goodwin's 1990's silverhelms it could work with any of those.
