Hi all,
I never owned any of the the GW board games when I was a kid, but I really want to now! I have some questions...
I'm trying to convince myself that this potential purchase is a future investment for my two year old son and I've been trawling ebay to see box sets selling for about £35 on average, however I don't think I need all the contents.

I have a whole load of miniatures to use and I intend to make my own dungeon tiles (eventually maybe with my son...), so should I just buy the rulebook? Is there anything else that I absolutely must have from the box set and finally, in not buying the box set am I cheating myself and my son out of an important part of the experience?

You are cheating yourself if you don't play this game.
Great little dungeon bash ... only played it this week.
You really struggle to survive and get out with some loot at low level....and then it's only just enough to cover your losses so takes a while to get anywhere compared to Warhammer quest. It is also much more flexible and expandable ... you can make up monster tables to fit exactly the figures you have ... and a real bonus for you and your lad is you can go adventuring together and play the solo rules ... which work very well.
Aside from the rules ... the next best thing in the box is the doors. (Same ones as came with the mighty fortress) ... best doors ever.
In fairness the floor plans are of excellent quality on very thick card ... although I am not a fan of the jigsaw ends on the corridors.
The figures are very nice for early plastic and I have seen some amazing paint jobs on the henchmen that make them look fantastic.
Their are some tokens for the GM to use in GMed version of the game and some tokens to track wounds but I might be able to help you out with some of those.
I would say it was probably worth £35 .... but then I am a bit of a collector.
If you have minis and are happy to make floor plans then you don't really need anything else.
I would get the rules and then keep looking as eventually you will pick up a box cheaper than that.
All the best,
Harry

Yeah, I'd say it was totally worth that sort of price. The counters are helpful, and the boards are really nice and heavy duty. Plus it's a nice box to put on the shelf ;)

Cheers, you've all convinced me to try and buy one then even if it does sit on my shelf for a little while. In fact it''ll probably take me 10 years to build the 3d dungeon anyway, by which time my lad will be ready to play! Another addition to my eBay search lists then!

AHQ interests me greatly, when I'm financial again I have plans of acquiring a copy myself (and building a 3D dungeon, the quester's dream)
