A few new adventurers and one very green . . .

Slann!

Yeah, that's not the best picture, but I wanted to start with that. He's all lonely and green like. He wants friends.

Anyway . . .

So I've gotten a couple of miniatures painted between terrain outings so far this year. And I never did post about the last few miniatures from the last grim hours of 2014. Therefore I give you, Madmen of the Moab Wastes.

Above is a mix of EM4 and Ramshackle. Mostly good to great, though the police officer leaves a lot to be desired. Neither am I quite happy with the paint job nor is it a miniature I'd recommend. The EM4 plastics just don't fit together cleanly. And the sculpts are rather awkward and a bit low on detail. Will see if they come out better with the EM4 mod bits I bought, but I'm guessing my sculpting will get some exercise and maybe even improve a little. Here's the same trio from behind. I'm pretty happy with the way the scavenger came out.

And next . . .

The slann. And another great EM4 miniature. I hadn't meant to coordinate the new EM4 fellow, Michael Blake, so closely with Kitty, but I think it works fairly nicely. And I did rather intend to marry them off. (Yeah, I'm playing with little lead dolls. So sue me. They have big guns. Does that help?)

Anyway, all in all I'm pretty happy with the set. Mad Robbo (in the red onesie), the spaceport dick, and the fellow in the straw hat were the last 2014 arrivals. Blake and the slann were the first of 2015. I need more slann. Anybody want to sell me a winning lottery ticket?

I think it's a sort of achievment in its own way when you can field a giant space frog amongst humans and it makes sense. Right here on these pictures it does, that's the power of RT and of a well composed set of models and terrain. I love it.

Say, Curtis . . .

Is he a Sonic the Hedgehog reference? Someone over on my blog said he reminded him of Dr. Robotnik I think it was. And I have to say I very definitely see the resemblance. Given that there are genes (and experimental cancer treatments my late sister tried, which is to say it didn't work for her, but what they hay?) with names referring to Sonic I suppose it shouldn't surprise me, but I have to ask.

For the record, I didn't consciously imitate your paint job, but I somehow like it that they both came out in similar palettes. And mostly red.

Anyway, thank you sir. Please do tell your brother I like his work.

^Asslessman,

Thank you. I'm stealing a lot of inspiration from Ferrograd as I work up my industrial complex, not surprisingly. And on a stark frontier world I think you really can have just about everyone side by side believably. George Lucas bears some responsibility for that. Also perhaps the American West, which legendarily had all sorts. (Not far from true in my experience. Hell, it really was one of the major crossings of the larger Eastern and Western worlds, which makes for some strange and interesting local currents. Says the large white boy married to the small Asian girl presently soundly asleep on the next floor up from him.) Anyway . . .

VERY late night ramblings aside, thank you. And you are quite correct: the RT world was a powerful and brilliant one. It robs virtually every interesting piece of my youth blind and in the process itself becomes one of the best ones. You are what you eat, they say. RT ate at a very fine table. They make many many things possible. Now that you guys have finally convinced me there's a place for SKELETONS in space I'll believe just about anything can be made to work. Frogs are easy. But pretty.

Very nice stuff! I really like the figures shown in the setting (I must make some decent terrain this year!). I've a real soft spot for slann, and yours has a nice textured skin pattern with all the mottling.

Michael Blake has a real Han Solo feel about him

Thank you Axiom. Can't wait to show off the next Slann when I get him done. This one's a conversion and not a straight up original. (Or even a Citadel mini, for that matter, but I think he'll work nicely.)

Also glad you like Blake. Maybe he's what Solo would look like were he a hipster, but maybe that's where he'd go these days. He does have an earring now, I believe.
