5 days to go...

...and I can start painting my Oldhammer stuff!

Have Mr Warwick Kinrade over tonight for a weekend of gaming and photography for our new WW2 book and then I have six months off painting WW2 to relax and paint my Oldhammer stuff!

Been an age waiting for the chance but finally its almost here!

Trying to convince Warwick that we should release a set of old skool fantasy rules... And pic his brains over what to do with my Battlefleet Gothic collection as he wrote alot for it. Another project I have ended up with!

Anyway, next week I have lined up a few Oldhammer pieces to ease myself back into painting 28mm.

Question is... What first for test pieces... Any suggestions?

I have Chaos Thugs, Chaos Warriors, Chaos Dwarfs, Imperial Dwarfs, Empire, Imperial Guard, Marines and Eldar waiting to go.

Richard's right

If you odn't wan tthe wheel of fate to decide, chaos anything seems the easy way to get back on it as it's more forgiving in terms of colours and all, no need to get things "right" it can be weird and awkward and still fit the bill ;) it's also the genre that should the most different from what'youre painting the rest of the time (unless your WW2 stuff is painted in flashy saturated colours with mutations everywhere).

If you're having fun with Warwick, might you get us shots of Kendal's dark angels army ? (as seen in some oldish WD) cuz... you know, we like a bit of old painted lead.

Not sure he still has it...

I know he still has his High Elves, he is bringing them over in the summer for some Warhammer gaming. But I think he sold all his 40k stuff. I shall ask him what he has left.

I know he is bringing me over some Citadel journals as a pressie...

I'd go with Chaos Dwarfs but that's only because someday it'd be good to meet up and beat them up with my halflings :)

Is this another supplement to the Battlefront Kursk books or is it something new?

Yes... our 5th Battlegroup book, and scarily the one I mainly wrote (well with Woz doing all the hard work like editting my ramblings into something legible and filling in all the gaps I left when the day job got me too busy to write, so I say its my work, but really he did the work!) - Battlegroup Blitzkreig;

We have moved to just one main book a year for Battlegroup now, the time invested in design and painting followed by playtesting was just too much to keep up with two big books a year.

We are looking at other things though... Woz has a set of Crusades rules under development, hence why I want to poach the mechanics and work them into a fantasy game...

Though Im also working on something with more guns... and lasers... 8-)

In a similar vein and for similar reasons I say "BOOO!" to everything fantasy, do the 40k stuff instead. John will end up using Halflings against you regardless. Really.

Sounds like great fun mate! All the armies mentioned are ace. Perhaps CHaos Thugs since they're less commonly seen?

I know you're only teasing, but I'd love to see some more fantasy rulesets released. There are heaps already, but most are of course really small skirmish or the opposite, huge multi-based armies.

Well, looks like we may do a fantasy mass battle set of rules as the mechanics for the crusades game are working well and they are the test bed.

Will be interesting, the rules aee designed to allow armies to function in completely different ways but still provide a balanced game.

So looks like we will do some fantasy rules in the next year or two, maybe longer as we will have to find non GW figures to illustrate it.

Sounds interesting - have you thought about partnering with one of the independent fantasy minis producers who don't have a rules-set? In terms of Old School It would be really interesting to see something built around Viking Forge ranges, for example.

Been doing some WW2 Oldhammer using Rogue Trader (get's quite streamlined when everyone is a human!) and some other bits - do you have a link to your WW2 forum?

Thats interesting. theottovonbismark and I used to play a lot of WWII games using third edition 40k rules back at the turn of the century. Conversely, we have been playing sci-fi themed games using our RT figures via the Bolt Action ruleset in the last few months.
