4th Ed High Elves - Alternatives

Guys

I've finished painting my old 4th Edition plastic High Elves after starting them 23 years ago, one problem I'm having is trying to retro paint them in the same style I used all those years ago lol.

Anyway, I'm trying to prepare them for 3rd Ed rules, so I think hey need to be in units of 20, but the plastics came in 16's... apart from waiting for these figures to pop up on Ebay, can anyone advise on a suitable alternative?

Cheers
Paul

If you're talking about plastic monopose elves from the 4th edition starter set, there are a million of them on ebay, and not too expensive. Alternatively the last person who asked here got buried in drifts of them from forum members, perhaps there might still be some taking up room in other collections that they could send you - you should make a post in the trade section. As for your actual question i don't think I've seen a very close match, maybe Mirilton, though they are more into loin cloths than scale-mail...

They are the ones, bloody boring figures... but set myself a target (New Years resolution) to finish these off before buying more interesting figures :)

Huh, aren't the plastic elves one of the most common/cheapest models around? As said, spend a moment on ebay or ask here. You see them often enough thrown in job lots of models! They'll certainly be cheaper/easier than any alternative models.

Other than that, perhaps look for a command group, bringing it to 19 and just use a spare base/proxy model/bit of battlefield terrain for the last model.

While on the subject, why do you think they "need to be in units of 20"? Use whatever you like, surely?

Making GW's stupid-quantity boxes (Who needs 6 skeletons for instance?) up to 10s and 20s was what the Unit Filler was intended for... I know some people hate them (mainly tournament people I have to say) but I think the unit filler is a great way to spice up a unit adding extra background.

He may be referring to the structure of units in the 3rd ed Warhammer Armies. I haven't read mine fully, I'm mainly in it for the pictures  ;)

Thanks guys, yes ultimately aiming to use 3rd Edition, when I finally win an auction lol. I havent seen many auctions of a handful of figures for sale in NZ unless I want a whole Elf army... I've been searching our local version of Ebay.

Looks like Ebay in the UK is going to be the way to go, may need to get some shipped to my parents address in the UK and pick them up when I visit in March.
