3rd Edt High Elf Army Composition

King Arthur

Vassal
Hi All

As an Undead and Chaos player, I'm in need of some advice on the High Elves.....

I usually game against my son, each of us taking either one of Undead of forces of Chaos, recently we have been debating collecting a 'Good' army to battle against - High Elves!

In my humble opinion, the High Elves, although of Good Alignment, are good only to their own ends, Good in the way that despise the Dark Elves and the Ruinous Powers (and of course those loud and smelly Orcs  ) and I like this selfishness about them and have been plotting along the lines of a not so typical White/Blue colour scheme, but something a bit darker.....

So a small background detail would be a renegade Prince, a Noble whom for years has been at sea, fighting against his Dark Kin and Chaos, he is at the head of a bitter and battle hardened army, the line between Right and Wrong is becoming blurred, he lives for battle and the destruction of his enemies....

I want to theme the army as a sort of expeditionary force, so definitely using Ship Companies and Merchant Companies. Aside from Characters I have drawn up this for the Rank and File:

9 Silver Helms (Princes Retinue)
7 Shore Riders (most likely led by a Wizard)
Chariot? (Princes brother at the helm) and just because the MD4 model is soooooo damn cool
19 Archers (plus Hero)
19 Guards (plus Hero)
19 Merchant Company (plus Hero)
9 Ships Company (plus Hero)
Repeater Bolt Thrower
9 Seekers (Plus Hero)
9 War Dancers (Plus Hero)

How would that hold up as a force? The Shore Riders and Ships Companies would be Bow armed as would the Heroes also, so in total 58 Long Bow armed troops plus the Bolt Thrower, should be enough fire power and with the Silver Helms, Guards and the 2 units of Comapnies there is enough of a fighting core also?

In terms of models to represent the above any good tips for Seekers and Ships Companies? Goblin Lee had a nice idea of using the ME31 Sylvan Elves in his army, so perhaps these would be good for the Seekers?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Best Regards

Gary

As long as there is a decent wizard or two amongst your character I think that sounds like a tough army to crack.
The ships co. Might be a bit in the small side but would be a good flank
Force for the larger HtoH unit.

Cheers,

Blue

We've converted you to pansies now Blue?

If you can find them the marauder sea elves make just the best ships companies.

For seekers you can't go far wrong than the plastic warhammer regiments wood elves. Bonus is they are cheap too, I may even have some I can give to you for a Father son project, I'm all about Dadhammer, depends if I can find them though let me know if your interested and I'll start digging in the lead/plastic mine.

These days cavalry will cost you. I believe the sylvan elves will too these days.

I'm just getting round to painting my high elf collection this year so I look forward to seeing how your project progresses.

Cheers Blue, there will most likely be a Lvl 20 Wizard and a Lvl 15/10.

Regarding the Ships Company, if my memory serves correct you may have a maximum of 30 models per army but maximum unit size is 10 models? I plan to use them first as a Missile unit and secondary as a flanking unit in support of the Merchant Company.

Now I need to start collecting them and put them to the test!
