I particularly like the Sargent. Nice work all round.

Have a soft spot for these 2nd edition minis - they are nicely detailed, good mix of older and newer armour and the flexibility that the plastic arms and weapons gave you when posing them was great. However there was always something, and I’ve never been able to only finger on it, about sculpts that mixed plastics and lead. Maybe it was that they felt ‘fragile’ when compare to either fully plastic or fully metals sculpts?

I think it was because they've made plastic parts bulkier? More blocky ( was thinking on other word hehe ) then metal parts that got smaller thinner legs and arms with more detail like that, plastic parts were tat bigger. Plastic parts were more simple in design and very precise in shapes. They look attached ( as they are ). That's what I was thinking when assembling 2nd edition metal plastic combination space marines.

Nice minis. Never had any luck with transfers or patience for that matter. Knee pad markings look great. Specially on that first after sergeant.

Thanks so much guys.

I completely agree re:the plastic arms, although I'd argue the space orks that were available around the same time are more grievous offenders in that regard!

They just require so much effort and tinkering to make them look nice, and even more (pinning etc...) if you want them to stand up to even moderate play and handling.

For that reason, these guys are all pinned to buggery and also gloss then matt varnished to make sure they're usable as gaming pieces first and foremost.

I do like that they're done with era appropriate bits though, makes my inner 14 year old smile! Even he is happy to give in to modern bits for the space orks though (thank god for knightmare games!)

I never liked transfers much either but had to give in to them for the blood angels symbols (I'm not that much of a masochist!). Everything else is free hand, hence the slight wonkiness to the skulls (but I think it lends them a bit of character)

Nice work indeed. The colors look good and I like the style. Maybe the bold colors help make those big 2nd ed sculpts pop. Great stuff!
