28 mm Frontier Buildings.

In my ongoing quest to write a new Sci-Fi TV series in 28 mm installments I’ve built some new set pieces . . . er terrain. This time it's a desert settlement. There will be more of these as I go, but here's what I've got so far.

Oh, the levels of the two story building are independent. I hope this will make it more flexible. Will build a hatch to cover the trap to the roof/second floor when I get a chance.

You can read about it on my blog in a post called Intentional Terrain. It's been an interesting experiment so far. I hope the gaol will be even better.

I like those, simple and effective, you immediately get the tone of where the scene takes place. I don't think I'd add Ork glyphs, this way they can play their part for any setting and can look as orkish as human.

Oh and seeing an ork with telescopic legs undr a doorframe... don't know, that made me laugh... ;)

^Suber,

First, thank you. They're simple, but I believe they will work nicely. They could still use some details. Checkers isn't a bad idea. Don't really figure on adding ork glyphs. As Asslessman stated, without glyphs they're more flexible. I'm figuring on adding some temporary set dressing to give a better sense of orkiness. Perhaps some scatter terrain. I might build some specifically ork huts later, but these really are supposed to be an abandoned human settlement that orks have temporarily inhabited. (Squiggycap and his boys were really just passing through at the wrong time. They don't actually live here. Just came to steal some . . . er, do some trade.)

^Asslessman,

Thank you. The ork with the telescopic leg is a hoot. Almost as much as Four Arms. (You know, I suppose Four Arms also has four eyes, though he doesn't wear glasses.) Loves me my Freebooterz. They're the last and best batch of orks I built. Trouble I find is . . . they're generally unusually tall for orks and therefore don't fit easily under ANYTHING. Oops. Telescoping legs is just going to have to learn to keep his extremities under control if he doesn't want a headache. Orks are pretty thick headed, though, so I'd guess he'll be fine.

A good occasion to work on a telescopic legs + reinforced cranium build ...

Thank you Jeff McC. As it happens, I'm making some progress.

An update: there is now a jail for the mining camp the orks have taken as their own . . .

There's a touch more and some description of the build in a post called Intergalactic Hoosegow, but the basics can be seen here without further clicking. I may build some furniture for the place, but for now I think it does what it needs to do. I suppose it could use a door though . . . It is abandoned, but it's also a former police station of sorts. Maybe an implied back door could also be useful. How about a door going to the basement and who knows what from there? And perhaps a second floor holding cell. Hmm.
