Wilbur the Red
Lord
Here we go!
Last year I participated with a beastman whose lore implied a mutant warband gathering in the Drakwald, and becoming the core of my eclectic army of chaos thugs, warriors, demons and beastmen.
I wanted to paint a new nurgle demon sculpt by Juan Díaz but after days of planning I've realized I want it to be something special and I don't want to rush it, so I came back to my first idea of a Tzeentch Spawn who can be used as the idiot leader of my army, an idea stolen straight from the Warhammer Renaissance Armies Compendium:
So, I stared for days at catalogs looking for shapes and bits that could work (not limiting myself to old or citadel bits -hi there, Knightmare Miniatures-). And more or less it all came down to one of my most basic, early drawings: A mindless mushroom shaped thing, blessed by Tzeentch to the point of no one knowing what he or she was in the beginning (no beast* or human traits are visible on the model).
(*) That sucked because I liked the concept of a mushroom with cloven hooves being last trace of the original warband leader's body, but it meant:
A) having to cut (and effectively destroy) two beastmen models I can't afford to lose, and
B) it would end looking too much like a Lovecraftian Black Young of Shub-Niggurath, but a lot worse than the Ral Partha model one that is now in my WANTED list of non-citadel models.
C) Wasting that Diskworld luggage feet reference that has lived rent-free in my head all summer.
You've already seen this somewhere, but here are some sketches and mockups:

I was fond of the big hands, but looked too much like the pink horror regular unit I'll be painting so that was a no. My friends voted and almost all liked the symmetrical partying flamer arms (I decided to turn on pair of legs backwards days later so it would be really random: has no face and points as if it could walk in opposite directions).
Also, I don't want it to look like the mushroom base (is it called volva?) and the tiny lumps ARE its face, so I'll have to work on that later.
So, all that said: Am I an idiot for assuming that if Kev Adams** thought that t was a cool idea to just turn a mushroom upside down to make a cool jumping demon, it's a proper homage to turn that design again to make the silliest demon ever?
(**) Correct me if I'm wrong on the authorship of this particular demon.

Also, health stuff added to recent social and political events in my city have prevented me to meet a nice person who agreed to sell me Galmen Goreblade (so no cool guy on disk neither). It is even permissible in small armies, though ill-advised, for your army to be led by a Chaos Spawn General. This represents an especially fervent, bordering on fanatically insane, band of followers who remain loyal even after their leader has lost the favour of the capricious Chaos Powers. Note that a Chaos Spawn General is effectively brain-dead and therefore incapable of imparting his Leadership to others.
