more chaos ratmen to start off the year.

Skaven36a.jpg

four storm vermin with two-handed weapons and another mage.
on the left is a mantic games vermin kin with gw stormvermin head (from december's model of the month) and oathmark goblin arms. i had to do some work on the weapon to give the appearance that it's being held in both hands. the next three are from ral partha europe and the mage is an oakbound studios gnawlock.

Skaven36b.jpg

i'll need to swap out one of my existing 13 skaven magic users to accommodate this one, but haven't yet decided which one will best fit in another unit.
i now have 30 storm vermin with two-handed weapons, and since warhammer armies stipulates a maximum unit size of 20, i'm contemplating getting another eight and forming a second unit (i already have a spare musician and standard bearer).

Yes yes, quick quick then manthing
it probably won't be that quick - i need to source some figure first; or work out how to do some more convincing conversions.

Excellent ratmen, great start to the year!
thank you.
i'm going to intersperse fantasy and sc-fi, at least for a while, to keep things fresh.

Promethium tanks1a.jpg

here's a brace of promethium tanks.

Promethium tanks1b.jpg

they're from a gw necromunda ash wastes kit (more to come later).

Promethium tanks1c.jpg

why yes, i did have a voucher, however did you guess?

Promethium tanks1d.jpg

mostly painted with sponging and stippling. i should have painted before adding the small tank, walkways and ladders, but that only became apparent once it was too late. still, i managed.

some more ratmen.

Skaven37a.jpg

three from the hhg kamikaze rocket teams and a couple of more recent ral partha europe sculpts - a scribe and a shaman.

Skaven37b.jpg

the three fusiliers will actually be going into my mortar battery and the others will be doing duty as pois0oned wind globadiers, the shaman as a standard bearer. i added some milliput globes to his belt to try and sell the idea.

thank you. the main part of the kit was this cargo-8 ridgehauler trailer.

again mostly painted with sponging and stippling.
i thought it would be in keeping with the rogue trader aesthetic to have it pulled by a diecast lorry, which inspired the paint work for the trailer. i modified the connecting post to allow them to fit together.

i also did some sponging of the lorry, not least to make it less shiny before black washing.

Sound system carrier1a.jpg

my current intention is to have it as a sound system for my space rastafarians. that won't be until i find, or work out how to make, some suitable speaker stacks.
the kit came with a few other bits, which no doubt will get incorporated into future builds.

^Curtis Fell over on Ramshackle had some speaker stacks in 15mm. He might have some in 28mm as well, but speakers come in all sizes. That 15mm wall of sound won't look quite as impressive in 28mm, but it might still make for a usable bar rig, or maybe if you have two or three of them . . . ;)

Old computer speakers might work tolerably well. Pull off the grills so you can see the drivers and just add spraypaint. (I'm assuming these don't need to work, though . . . they could? If you don't hack them apart too badly.) Or the drivers from old clamshell heaphones glued into boxes. Small speakers still look like speakers, and they'll look incredibly big in 28mm.

ramshackle games seems to be in a spot of bother at the moment, so i'll give curtis a shout and see what size they are.

i need to ... work out how to do some more convincing conversions.
i had some ideas.

Skaven38a.jpg

the standard bearer and musician are from the shattered lands range originally by crusader miniatures via several other companies to i'm not sure where currently.

Skaven38b.jpg

the others are mantic ratkin warriors with homemade weapons and left arms from wherever more-or-less worked.

Glad to report he was overwhelmed with orders after he put a call out:
Well deserved, the guy is a legend and is well loved by the community! :)
